This great musket is right out of the attic and new to the collecting fraternity. The pictures attest to the wonderful untouched condition of this musket. The middle band and spring were removed during it’s period of use and now have a beautiful patina that matches the rest of the musket. The touch hole was bushed during it’s period of use so we know it saw much use but was well taken care of. The musket is stamped " I. COOK" and "I.C" in the buttstock. The Colony of Massachusett Provincial Congress in 1774 sanctioned the purchase of 15,000 muskets from various European countries all of them came through France. Many of the them were in fact what we call the French Charleville. They were for use by the Militia’s. They arrived a few months before the battle of Lexington & Concord . Pvt. Isaac Cook enlisted in Capt. Isaac Hall’s Co. and on April 19th 1775 marched to Lexington & Concord. He probabily participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill as well as Capt.Hall’s Co. was there also. In 1776 he enlisted in Col. Greaton’s 3rd Mass.Inf. for 3 years. He fought in many battles including Trenton & Sarotoga. In his pension papers he goes into alot of details about the battle of Trenton such as the harsh weather conditions, the clever deception of the Hessions by Gen.Washington and being ordered to sleep on their muskets to keep them dry. He also goes into detail about personally witnessing the surrender of Gen. Burgoyne at Saratoga. This is a really rare and historic musket and comes with all his sevice records and pension papers.
