The fellow that I purchased this pistol from believed that the inscription had something to do with Georgia which is where the gun surfaced. On further research I found that John Peddie and William H. Langley  were the same age and from the same neighborhood in Brooklyn ,N.Y. The engraver transposed the W.H in Langley’s name which is a rather common occurrence.  Cpl. Peddie saw action at Gettysburg  and was mortally wounded at Cold Harbor.
The action on the pistol works well.   All the serial numbers match except for the cyl. which matches in color, patina and condition. Very possibly this pistol was one of a pair and the cyl. got switched while cleaning or the pistol was captured at Cold Harbor and went South.   Either way it’s a good historical piece carried by a brave Civil War soldier who gave his all
