This ’51 Colt Navy would have been one of the ones that was issued to the 2nd/5th U.S.Cav. stationed in Texas before the war.Sec.of War Jefferson Davis came under harsh criticism for filling there ranks with southern sympathizers. This turned out to be true as of 34 officers 18 resigned in order to fight for the South. The List of Future Confederate Generals reads like a who’s who of the Confederacy incl .Robert E.Lee, Albert S.Johnston, John B.Hood, Fitzhugh Lee etc.The pistol is in pretty good shape with all matching serial numbers and good cyl.scene with some pitting. The grip is stamped "John H. Engle" and is of the period .The butt strap has "10 TX." scratched in it and is of the period also but hard to capture on camera as it’s faint but still readable.A really great Texas Colt.
