This beautful Bible is inscribed in old brown ink "David Holton Winship, Choctau Nation, Ark" .At the bottom of the page it says"A birthday gift from his mother on his seventh birthday 1850". On the back page is written"My son,know thou  the God of thy faith and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind for the Lord etc…………….".   This leather covered Bible is in perfect shape and was printed in 1849 by The American Bible Society , New York. It also comes with it's home spun carrying case in which some of the side stitching is separating. David Holton Winship enlisted as a private in the 1st Chickasaw/Choctaw Indian Terr. Cav.(Mounted Rifles) and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. It's safe to assume that he would have taken this Bible with him when he went off to War.
 This is one of the most unique items I ever put up for sale. I don't beleive I every seen another one.
