This rare musket is the Holy Grail to the American martial arm collector.  It is much rarer than the early 1795 Springfield muskets.  Prof.Charles Thayer has discovered this rare group of arms that were refurbished under contract with the Continenatl Armory in Philadelphia from 1780-83 (Article will go with the musket).   These muskets all have certain salient features such as all  brass furniture with a high copper content and a truncated thumb nail heel butt tang. Also, they are all missing a wrist escutcheon.  All these muskets were restocked at the armory .
This musket is made from a 43 1/2 Brown Bess barrel with a U.S surchage and SP (Pennsylvania ownership stamped on it.  Also, on the bottom of the buttstock behind the trigger guard are the inspector initals HH under what appears to be the number 2.   The lock is from a Charleville musket.  The musket is in fine plus condition and totally unfooled with. This is only the second one of these I’ve seen in 30 years.
