A beautiful American Bowie made by Clarenbach & Herder of Philadelphia circa 1840-50. Overall length is 12 1/2" with a thick , straight 8" single edge , spear point blade with a 2 1/2 " false edge.  The blade is stamped Clarenbach & Herder on it's ricasso . It's also stamped Clarenbach & Herder with Philada half way down the blade. The  two piece finely checkered wooden grips are fastened with 5 brass pins.
