Geo. Wostenholm was known for his fine Sheffield Bowie knives such as this example. This 6 3/4" blade has the company logo plus the very desirable 'Old Zach" on horseback. Maj. Gen. Zachary Taylor was a hero of the Mexican-American War and was elected President in 1849. He died in office less than a year later in 1850. These "Old Zach" Bowie's witnessed the turbulant times leading up to and through the Civil War. The semi-clip point blade has a minor edge nick and is still razor sharp. It retains much of it's original polish. The slab stag handles are held by 5 pins. The knife comes with it's original scabbard which is trimed on it's borders in gold leaf and in the center IXL.
