This Confederate double barrel shotgun was formerly in the personal Collection of author/historian Wiley Sword. It was sold in the Oct 1999 Julia Auction(copy included). The gun is also featured in a Feb.1965 Gun Report article by Wiley Sword (copy included) titled The Guns at Ivy Mountain . The gun is a English import and signed "Manufactured for E.B.Tabb & Co. Norfolk, Va."on it's top barrel rib. Both 32"barrels show Birmingham proofs . The right side lock exhibits a period stamped C.S. On the butt tang is the Confederate property number 229. This gun has seen lots of use and shows much wear. It exhibits several field repairs including soldering of the barrels(evidently occasioned by the repeated firing of heavy loads) and the placement of crude copper washers over the hammer screws in order to keep them from loosening. In the Julia auction description it's stated by Wiley Sword that he purchased this shotgun in North Carolina in 1960. This is a rare example of a true Confederate Shotgun from a prominent Civil War collection.
