This super rare books official title is "Medical, Chirurgical , and Anatomical Cases and Observations by Laurence Heister, M.D .  It was translated from German into English by George Wirgman and printed in London by J. Reeves in 1755.  Written on the front page in period brown ink is " Captured at Yorktown, Virginia".   What a great prize this most have been for the American Forces especially when you consider the primitive state of medicine at the time. I’ve included in one of my photo’s a drawing of a face wound with bullet holes. The manual goes on to explain the appropriate means to address the wound.  There are many more of these drawings in this really interesting book. The book contains all of it’s original 688 pages. It still retains it’s original cardboard cover but is missing it’s outer hard cover. On the inside of the cardboard cover is written" To Dr. F.L. McCrea -Wit the Complements of Arthur Hudson Helene 1944.  I’ve also included in my photo’s a picture of the original letter of provenance that states this book was acquired by the Heluce family in 1875-76 by Dr. Timothy Hudson, Newburg ,N.Y and descended in the family to the great grandson Arthur Hudson Helene.
This is a really rare book with a great Historical heritage.
