This great Lancaster rifle was made by one the master gunsmiths of the Golden Age of Kentucky Rifles. Grove worked in Lancaster,Pa. from 1812-1835 and by the archecture on this rifle I would date it as one of his earliest works. The rifle itself is a work of art with some of the nicest raised wood carving your going to find. It’s still in it’s original flintlock configuration and the mechanism works very well . The lock looks good and is a good fit but may have been replaced at sometime. The overall length of the .45 cal. rifled barrel is 40 1/2". This rifle would date from the War of 1812 period. The gun has a really beautifuI untouched patina. The patchbox lid is released by a concealed button at the bottom of the buttstock toe. I purchased this great rifle a few years back from a Manheim,Pa. collection where it had been for 50 years. The Best of the Best.
