A very attractive Merwin with the rare marking Pocket Army on the right side of the frame. The serial number is 5490 and has matching assembly numbers 3409 on the cylinder, arbor pin and 3 1/2" barrel. The barrel has a beautiful shiny bore. The action is crisp and the barrel suction is very good. It retains about 80% of it's original factory nickel finish . The pearl grips exhibit a beautiful iridescence. These Merwins were really ahead of there time with the ability to eject only the spent shell when the barrel was pulled forward. This feature was way ahead of the Colt or Smith & Wesson.  These pocket .44-40's were the most powerful concealed handguns of their day and were very popular out West. ​
