Joseph Jourdain

This is a wonderful example of a Joseph Jourdain  pipe tomahawk -Green Bay Wisc. and Winnebago Rapids . He is the most coveted of all the master makers. I originally acquired this great Hawk 25+ years ago from the William E. Simon (Treas. Sec.. Reagan Admin.) collection.  It exhibits his known Man in the Moon with stars on one side of the head and a Flower on the obverse. The four inlays on each side of the head appear to be platinum, which he was known to use occasionally. The 23 3/4″ haft is file branded  and is slightly loose to the head . It  has acquired a beautiful rich patina.  For a similar Joseph Jourdain refer  to pg.85 in  Tomahawks  Pipe Axes of the American Frontier  by John Baldwin.
