This sword was formerly in the Stan Smullen collection and is the subject of an article he wrote for the Civil War magazine" North South Traders".  The title is "Sword into Knife: A Second Life" and a copy will come with the sword.  He goes into much detail on the brass multi-faceted eagle head swords.  He believes that they are all the work of Prahl of Phila. This sword has a great untouched look and I beleive ended up in the South. It certainly has a Confederate look to it. The blade and the original scabbard have been shortened to 20 3/4".  This great piece could fall into the category of either Short Sword or Fighting Knife . A really neat Civil War piecethat appears to have found it’s way south..
