This sword is new to the collector market and comes with a family notarized affidavit. It was the personal sword of Dr. Bradford H. Peirce who joined the Naval Militia in 1896 and served 'til May 1919. When the Influenza Pandemic broke out in 1918 he was assigned to Office of Medical District Aide, Headquarters 1st Naval District Boston, Ma. On August 21,1918 he was assigned to the Naval Hospital, New London, Ct. There were more people killed in the Flu epidemic than in the Great War. He retired from the service May 6, 1919. I did a quick genealogy search and it turns out that Dr. Peirce comes from a long line of American patriots dating back to the American Revolution. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and had three ancesters that fought in the Rev.War, one of which participated in the Battle of Lexington & Concord . He was also a member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendents . He is listed as 9th in Descent from William Bradford who was on the Mayflower. I've put together a pretty significant file on him that will come with the sword. The sword was mfg.'d by the Boston firm of Wm. Read & Sons. It comes with it's original scabbard . Also , will come with a picture of him in uniform seated with his colleagues.
This sword and the man who carried it have taken on a new persona since the outbreak of the current pandemic!
