This whale's tooth has a really beautiful mellow patina. It's a wonderful example of 19th century scrimshaw. The whaling scene is all there and has a heading of " Wooden Ships and Iron Men". The underside of the tooth is unfinished with two holes for attaching to something. My guess is that it was fitted to a cane but that's just a guess . The overall length is 5 1/2" with a width of 2 1/4".
