These Hawks  are exceedingly rare today and seldom offered for sale. I’ve had this one in my personal collection for a dozen plus years. The forged iron head is  4.5 “w x 7 3/4” l   with a Bleeding Heart.  The last picture shows you a close up of the seam from where the two halves were forged together after being beaten around a mandrel.  It retains it’s original  20 3/4″ haft which is round to semi flat on the bottom and has had a shim added to tighten the head to wood  fit. This shrinking of the wood is a natural occurrence as the wood dries out over the years. Actually, it’s one of the first things you look for in establishing that this is the original haft.  The brass tacks around the base of the eye are squire shanked as they should be for this time period.  A very attractive and hard to find item!
