A very attractive early American sword which is engraved with the original owners name on the knuckle guard W.Smith 1794. The 26 3/4" blade has a very unique archetecture and is very well made. The grip appears to be made of ebony and still retains it's original copper wire. There are a couple of age cracks in the wood that are solid and stable do to the copper bands. Further research may prove fruitful as August 20,1794 was the date of Fallen Timbers which was the final battle of the Nothwest Indian War for control of the Northwest Territoy.
