A very rare French & Indian War dated British Lt. Dragoon carbine. The lock is dated 1762 and signed by Galton. It also exhibits a nice Broad Arrow ownership stamp. The .70 cal barrel is 37' overall with a bayonet lug. The wooden ramrod is original and still retains it's worm. The action works as it should on both half and full cock. I beleive the gun saw American service in the Rev.War as it has a rear sight cut into the barrel tang. This was a common occurance on American used arms as we aimed our weapons whereas the European soldiers were trained to point and fire in a volley. Also ,there's a letter from Ben Franklin to Charles Carroll and Samuel Chase dated May 27,1776 regarding the capture of British military stores at sea.  In the letter he congratulates them on the great prize carried to Boston of Seventy-Five tons of gunpowder and a 1000 carbines with bayonets. According to Geo.Moller's American Shoulder Arms pg.252 he believes the captured carbines to be the 1756 Lt. Dragoon Carbine. Copy to come with the carbine.  This is an extremely hard gun to find in even an advanced Rev. War collections.
