This wonderful and historic pistol is brand new to the collecting fraternity. The gun has such a deep untouched patina that if you looked casually at it you wouldn’t see that it was inscribed.  The inscription on the backstrap reads" Capt. C. A. Johnston" and "6th Miss. Cav."  on the buttstrap. The pistol functions fine and locks up tight.  There’s no cyl. scene left and you can see some pitting under the patina which doesn’t detract from the overall appearance of the gun. The grip has had a hole drilled through it to accomodate a piece of rope or raw hide.  Charles A. Johnston originally enlisted in the 14th Miss. Inf. Co.K on May 24,1861 with the rank of Lieutenant . He transfered to the 6th Miss.Cav. Co. I  Dec.19,1863 and was promoted to the rank of Captain. He fought in many major battles to include Ft.Donelson, Gettysburg, Vicksburg and Harrisburg. He was WIA at the Battle of Harrisburg.  A Confederate Officers pistol is a very hard piece to find these days and is highly prized.
