A really neat untouched frontier carbine mfg.1869 and has a great weathered look. The gun was carried for many years across the neck of a horse and is worn through down to it’s loading tube. The carbine still functions O.K but has a weak loading lever spring and needs a lever retaining latch. The history on the carbine is really interesting. James R. Evans was born in 1846 in Tazewell,Tn. According to the census records he migrated to Medina,Texas sometime in the 1870’s where he took up farming and ranching. I guess he saw a need for Doctors on the frontier and gave up ranching for medicine. The later census records list him as a physician . There’s no doubt that this carbine traveled across his saddle on his journey from Tenn. to Texas and was there on the frontier with him for many years. It’s rare to find frontier guns that are identified such as this one and to a Frontier Doctor no less.
