There's little doubt that this was there for the early Indian wars. It's serial # 7076 and all visible numbers match. The action still works with the exception of half cock. The pistol has a heavy crusty patina and certainly shows signs of Indian use especially the grips . The barrel was cut to 5 5/8" in it's period of use. The pistol will come with a family letter attesting to it's use . It states that the pistol was purchased from a retired deputy sheriff in the 1930's by the owner's father . He lost it west of Billings in 1942 but found it again 10 years later. The deputy sheriff stated that he had acquired it from a Native American, that had been hung for 2 murders. He stated that the barrel had 2 notch's cut in it . This is the real deal and has a great untouched patina.
