This carbine serial # 16617 falls right between two known Custer Battlefield Carbines. Serial #'s 16160 & 16685 are listed as carbines that were issued to Co. H 7th Cav. and recovered as damaged guns after the Battle. This carbine has all original parts with no upgrades. This includes the high arch breech , heavy knurled hammer, first model rear sight with dome headed screws, no inspector initials on the barrel, non altered long wrist stock.The stock has been cleaned which has removed the cartouche. Never the less it's a Custer range carbine which are getting very hard to find. The lock has the correct 3 click tumbler and the bore could use a little cleaning but still exhibits good rifling. A reasonable priced Custer Range carbine.
