This neat Civil War Relic is frozen at full cock and shows evidence of  going down while in hand to hand combat.  After all the rounds were fired, the soldier fended off a sword attack as evidenced by a blade indentation in the trigger guard.  By the visible serial numbers 18989 ,this pistol was mfg.d' in early 1864.  A really historic Civil War pistol!
