This beautiful 1st mdl. Brown Bess shows signs of being an American captured musket. Originally when I listed this I thought it said 71th Regt. on the barrel but on closer examination I see that it really is the 7th Regt. . As you can see the musket exhibits one of the best looking Curly maple stocks I've ever seen which is in perfect condition with the exception of a couple of hairline age cracks on the right side buttstock. I imagine the old stock was broken in battle . The 46" barrrel has 2 British proofs and 7 Regt. on the top of the barrel. All the brass furniture is original to the musket. The lock is marked Tower with a crown and GR. Please refer to my cover sheet for the list of battles that the 7th Regt. participated in during both the Revolutionary War. This musket may have been captured early on in the war at the Battle of Quebec(1775) or later on at Cowpens (1781) or Yorktown(1781). A really historical and good looking piece.
