This historic Colt comes with it's original Slim Jim holster and the book " Rags to Hope" by Val. C. Giles which mentions Capt. Walch and his exploits numerous times.. The backstrap inscription was done before he made Captain in 1863. In 1861 he joined Tom Green's Rifles and traveled to Virginia where they were attached to the 4th Texas Infantry Hood's Brigade. He was WIA at Gaines Mills . Subsequent to the war he was chief clerk of the House of Representatives of the 13th, 14th, and 15th legislatures. He was appointed Commissioner of the General Land Office by Texas Govenor Hubbard in 1878 and again in 1880,1882 and 1884 . Texas was a pretty lawless place after the Civil War and he certainly would have had need of this pistol. The pistol was converted to cartridge sometime after the War and would have been carried by him on the Texas frontier. The action works fine and locks up tight. The wedge was replaced and the barrel tightened during it's perod of use. Also , a rear sight was added to the back of the barrel. All serial numbers match with the exception of the cylinder which is the original but the number's no longer visible. The ivory grips are original to the pistol and have taken on a beautiful mellow patina. A great piece of Texas history that will come with a 1" thick file that includes a picture of Capt. Walch with his men .
