This old Colt has alot going for it. First off it’s a U.S Ainswoth inspected serial #6402 Prime Custer Range pistol. Secondly, the frame has a Cattlebrand (Rocking JP ) stamped on it’s right side. The pistol was nickeled and the barrel shortened to 5" in it’s period of use. It also exhibits a beautiful set of old ivory grips that I assume were applied at the same time. The pistol still retains 90 % + of it’s nickel finish . The action works smoothly and locks up tight. All the serial numbers match and it has the rare feature of being able to read the barrel serial number without removing the ejector housing. There are three Rocking JP ranch’s located in Texas , Arizona and California so there’s no way of telling for sure which one this pistol came from. None the less it’s a great looking western pistol with possible Little Big Horn association.
