This Hawk has a very unique archetecture and is quite early. Possibly as early as the Rev.War. The head is 7 1/4" including the spike with a 2 1/4" blade width.  The 8 1/2" haft is original with a matching patina to the head. These Riflemen Belt Axes were required equipment for all Rev.War Militiamen.
