This untouched 3rd mdl. Brown Bess dates from the Rev.War with all the early features such as the bulbous swell on the forestock and English proofs on the top of the barrel.. However, it has the later smaller U.S ownership stamps on the barrel and lock which indicates it was done after the Rev. War and before the War of 1812.  The musket functions properly and with the exception on the ramrod is all original.  The stock is stamped " J.Donnel "in 3 places and has also had it’s comb shaved to fascilitate aiming.  Pvt. James Donnel  was a member of the 1st Ohio and participated in many frontier battles . Please refer to the cover sheet for all the battles. His most famous battle was Lake Erie.  You can see on the left forestock Hwhere a bayonet point cut a groove of a couple of inch’s.  Which I find pretty neat.  American identified War of 1812 weapons are even harder to find then Revolutionary War ones.
