As rare as a 1860 Fluted Army with a factory letter stating pre-war shipment to a southern dealer is, this is rarer. In 30 years I’ve never seen a ’51 navy with a factory letter stating shipment to a southern dealer much less to a future Confederate General who owned "Tredegar Iron Works" and was equiping his own militia. He and his militia not only saw action but he was wounded at "Frayers Farm" after which Gen.Lee sent him back to "Tredegar Iron Works" stating that’ he could always get Generals but somebody to supply the cause with Cannons and Locomotives was to important to lose’. The gun itself is in very good shape with matching serial numbers and a nice frosted patina. It really has that untouched attic look.
