Some pretty interesting history goes with this Civil War New Testament.  It was carried and signed by Asst. Surgeon Charles E. Goldborough  who was captured at the Battle of Winchester June 15, 1863.  He was imprisoned in Libby Prison, Richmond where he remained until a prisoner exchange was arranged by Maj. Gen. E.A Hitchcock whose name appears on the back page of the Bible as Commissioner . He served on the Commission for the Exchange of Prisoners.  There’s also a third name but not sure of what it is but it pictured in my grouping so see what you think.  Interestingly, the 5th Md. Infantry had 306 men taken prisoner at the Battle of Winchester.  Also, after Surgeon Goldsborough was exchanged he rejoined his unit and was on 8/5/64 at the Battle of Petersburg.
