This unusal rifle is pretty much a standard model 1856 Enfield Rifle with a 33" barrel; however ,a brass patchbox has been professionally added during the War. The rifle is JS/ Anchor stamped behind the trigger guard and has the Confederate inventory number (2983) engraved on it's butt tang . The brass patchbox lid is crudely scratched "Plucked from the Enemy" . Obviously , a reference to it's being a captured piece. The condition of the rifle is pretty good. The barrel is mostly grey-brown with the rear sight gone. The bore is very good though pitted. Sling swivels, and ramrod are replacements. This is a really charming gun from the famous Confederate Collection of Mr. Ben Michel.
