This wonderful wooden Confederate canteen measures 7 1/4" across and is 3 1/4" deep. One side has the owners named W.C. Davis and 'C' (company). The obverse has the Calvary symbol of Crossed Sabers. The condition is very good with a good looking aged patina.
In my research I found three Confederate soldiers named W.C. Davis in Co. C's. One was a Sgt. in the 20th Tn. Cav.,another was a Pvt. in the 9th Tx. Cav. and yet another who was a Pvt. in the 21 st Va. Battalion Cav. I acquired the canteen at a Richmond, Virginia show so it more than likely belonged to the soldier in the 21 st Va. Battalion Cav. Co. C.
