This rifle has a nice untouched look. The metal to wood fit is excellent and the metal has a wonderful blue-brown patina. The bore is very good with sharp rifling. The barrel still exhibits some original factory blue in the protected areas.  All the inspector initials are present with two cartouches on the left stock flat. It is serial numbered C 30356 on the tang and under the barrel. This serial number puts it in the range of those rifles that were issued to the US Veteran Vol.  As part of a re-enlistment incentive the soldier was allowed to keep his rifle. On the bottom of the buttstock the owner of this rifle carved his initials H. A .W . So with a little research it may be possible to find the soldier who carried this rifle.
