This scrimshawed Whales tooth has a beautiful mellow yellow patina. The scrimshaw work depicts two ships (Kearsarge + Alabama) over a ribbon stating Victory over the Alabama.  The wording appears to be that of someone who  was on the U.S.S. Kearsarge at the time of the battle with the C.S.S. Alabama. The tooth o/a is 5 1/2″  long .  The battle between the C.S.S. Alabama and the U.S.S Kearsarge took place off the coast of Cherbourg, France and is one of the most famous of the Civil War.. I’ve had this great tooth in my personal collection for over 40 years.
