I know very little about 19th century key wind pocket watches. I took this watch in as partial trade for a very expensive firearm that I had in stock. For starters it's a key wind with no key so I have no idea if it works or not. Secondly,it needs a crystal. Having said all that I do however love the inscription. It reads "John B.Armstrong XIT Ranch Texas. The dial face says American Watch Co. and the back says Waltham,Mass with P.L Bartlett in script. The watch front cover is stamped Warrented Coin Silver *L262 and the back cover just *L262. The chain appears to be original to the watch. A pretty neat piece of the Texas history.
