This is an untouched original Confederate shotgun identified to both the 24th Texas and 1st Arkansas Cav. The shotgun more than likely changed hands at the battle of Arkansas Post  where both units were engaged. Seeing as the Arkansas marking are die stamped and the Texas markings are crudely field carved in the stock, it’s safe to assume that the gun went with the Texan. The barrel is 25" and was made that way, not a cut down.  The stock has this old iron nail through it and fashioned into a loop so a piece of rawhide can be attached to it in order to hang from the saddle horn. A true Confederate treasure.  Included with this shotgun is the book"This Band of Heroes -Cranbury’s Texas Brigade,C.S.A" by James M.McCaffrey of which the 24th was assigned.
