I really don’t know where to s tart. This outfit is as much a work of Art as it is a weapon. The 10 3/4" octagon swamped rifled .54 cal. blue barrels are signed in gold Fruwirth in Wien along with his sunken gold cartouche Fruhwirth A Viene . The barrels are numbered 1 and 2 on their tangs. Both are in like condition retaining most of their Blue with a nice patina and are equipped with single/folding leaf rear sights. The signed locks have small engraved panels one with a quiver of arrows and the other with a horn and sheet music. Both have single set triggers. The furniture is silver and their hallmarked spur trigger guards have chased floral designs and the finials have panels of crossed horn and quivers. The sideplates appear to be eithe dragons or swans. The varnished burl walnut stocks are finely checkered on their grips. The butts are carved in a blossom design and bound with a silver fillet chased with blossoms and diamonds.
The original green baize-lined walnut case is of unusual configuration with one pistol mounted in the lid and the other in the body of the case. It is fitted with seven lidded compartments secured by pivoting catches. Two of the compartments contain patches and bundles of tow and two contain balls. Accessories include powder flask, bullet mold, screwdriver, loading rod and mallet. The interior of the case is in really good shape with the original lining only showing moderate wear. The outside has some minor age scratches and dents but is really good looking. A really top notch set of Dueling Pistols from a bygone era where a man’s Honor meant everything.
