This great Gettysburg Relic at one time was part of the Smithsonian Institutions collection. It exhibits the original Smithsonian inventory tag which states "Frame of  Starr .44  revolver  found by  WPA  on the Taneytown Rd. The obverse side "Smithsonian Institution 47 ". The WPA was active during the 1930's Great Depression.  These D/A Starr .44's  were popular with Union Officers during the Civil War. The Taneytown Rd. was one of the major entry/exist  points used by the Federal troops here in Gettysburg.    This very historic piece has been part of my personal collection for 20+ years.
