A pretty good shape 1st mdl. Colt Dragoon. All the serial numbers match and the action is crisp.  The butt is period stamped ‘3 D’ which identify’s it to the 3rd Cav. Company D.  They were organized in 1846 during the Mexican-American War and saw quite a bit of Indian Fighting in the Southwest before the Civil War. When the Civil War broke out many of these career soldiers sided with the Southern cause . They took their arms and joined the Confederacy.  Whether this pistol went South we’ll never know but we do know that it used in the early Indian Wars on the Frontier.
