I've had this American Spontoon  in my personal collection for many years. The 17" head is wrought iron blacksmith forged and is attached to the haft by a iron wrapped tapered socket.  The 47 1/2" hardwood haft is tapered at both ends and appears to be original. It exhibits some age cracking and a really great patina. I've included some pictures of a very similar head from  George Neumann's book " Battle Weapons of the American Revolution"that was excavated from Ft. Ticonderoga. A very hard F & I War-Rev.War item to acquire.
