This Indian relic comes with a old Francis Bannerman tag attached which states" Indian Rifles-from lot surrendered by Sitting Bull Indians after the Custer massacre to U.S Army officers, and by order of the U.S  Government sold at auction in 1885 as Indian relics……….price $20.00 ea. For those who are unfamiliar with Francis Bannerman of New York ,a simple google search will tell you all about him.  He not only had a store on Broadway in New York City but he actually bought a Island in the Hudson river for  storage purposes.  The rifle is in relic condition . The hammer was broken off in it's period of use and the barrel is held to the stock by a piece of hide that is tacked. The buttplate was removed in typical Indian Fashion. A great piece originally from the top dealer in U.S Government surplus of the 19th century.
