A really attractive Kentucky pistol by Andrew Gumpf of Lancaster, Pa. Examples of his work are known with both spellings of the last name. He is known to have worked in Lancaster, Pa. from 1843-1875. This fine pistols has a 6 1/2" signed .45 cal. octagon barrel. It also exhibits a raised tang rear sight. The curly maple stock has that reddish violin varnish finish which is very eye appealing. It still retains it's original ramrod. The grip has a period repair by installing a german silver strap which has the owners name " John Schoenfeld " engraved on it. All the furniture is german silver. Signed Lancaster Kentucky Pistols are extremely rare.
