This is a beautiful "Golden Age" Kentucky pistol by Peter Neihardt who worked in Northampton Co. from 1764 until his death in 1813. He was considered one of the master gunsmiths and this fine pistol exhibits much of his beautiful work. The barrel is 8" long and is .45 cal with good rifling. The curly maple stock has raised carved paddles around it’s lock plate and sideplate. Also, it’s raised carved at the top of the wrist around the barrel tang. The wrist has a silver escutcheon. The pistol had been in the famous Jim Johnson collection for many years. This is one of Peter Neihardt’s early pistols from the 1760-1770 era. Golden Age Kentucky rifle are seldom seen for sale but pistols are 10X’s harder to find.
