This Kentucky really has that untouched look that most of us crave. It has a fantastic patina to both the wood and the metal. The barrel is signed "S. Shillito & Son"and is 41 1/2" long with what looks like a .48cal rifled bore. There’s a period wrist repair using what looks like 2 wood dowels(really neat) and there’s a piece of wood replaced between the lock and the barrel tang. None of this detracts in the least from the rifle as it was done so long ago that a good patina has developed over it. Samuel Shillito and his Son worked in Chambersberg,Pa. at the time this rifle was built(1840’s). The rifle has a great archecture to it and is just what went West to Oregon and California in the 1840’s.
