This attractive carbine saw service in both the Mexican-American and Civil Wars. The breech block is stamped U.S/S.NORTH/MIDL.TN/CONN.1846. The stock still exhibits two visible cartouches.  The breech block operating lever and spring retain most of their original factory blue as do most of the screws and barrel band spring. The barrel and retaining bands still exhibit a good amount of their original fading factory brown finish. The .52 cal. bore still has a nice shine to it. This carbine saw action from the very start of the Mex.-Amer. War(1846) to the end of the Civil War and is still in Fine + condition. During the Mex.-Amer. War these carbines were issued out to the 1st and 2nd U.S Dragoons. While during the Civil War they were issued out to quite a few outfits in Illinois, Missouri,  and Kansas. Specifically, the 4th Arkansas, 5th Iowa, 8th & 9th N.Y, 2nd Wisconsin, and 1st Indiana.
