This mdl. 1766 French musket was manufactured at the Charleville Arsenal and is so marked on the lock. The tail of the lock is stamped "U.S" which has been purposely filed down but can still be partially seen. I would assume that the Continental soldier who carried this musket decided to go home with it and wanted to obscure the U.S ownership stamp. The comb of the butt stock has been shaved in typical American fashion to facilitate aiming. This is something you see on a great many of the muskets that were used by American soldiers. The original 44 1/2" barrel was trimmed a little and is now 43 3/4". It comes with it's original ramrod. The stock is beautiful with all original wood and no repairs. Overall the musket exhibits a wonderful aged patina. A Rev.War musket that was here for the birth of our Nation.
