On march 2nd,1776 the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety agreed to pay Matthias Keely 75 pounds for 31 delivered Firelocks .  It further states that his contract was for 100 firelocks and they all were to be proved stamped P.P.  This is stated in the Minutes of the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania a copy of which is in picture number 4.  The musket exhibits much of the Dutch influence of it's maker. The stock has raised carved paddles accenting the lock and sideplate.  Also. it's nicely carved around the barrel tang. The butt plate shows it's Dutch influence. The lock is nicely engraved Matthias Keely on it's tail area. The .80 ca. 36 " barrel is stamped PP 1776 at the breech. The PP is the Pennsylvania Property marking.   All the furniture is brass with the exception of iron bands holding the barrel to the stock.  I believe this Fusil started out as a pin fastened musket and the iron bands were added later in it's period of use.  The gun overall exhibits a wonderful crusty brown patina.
Matthias Keely was born in 1722 and died on Jan, 28th,1808 in Chester, Pa.  He's also listed as a Lieutenant in the Third Battalion 3rd Co. City of Philadelphia Militia during the Rev.War.  I've accumulated a pretty significant file on this piece which will come with it.
