This old Buffalo rifle is stamped Freund & Bro on the top flat of the barrel right next to the Old Reliable stamp. The Freund brothers headed west with the Union Pacific Railroad in the 1860’s repairing firearms for workers who were shooting game to feed the crews . They first showed up in Denver, Co. in 1870. where they opened a store.. In 1875 they sold there store to J.P.Lower and opened a business in Cheyenne, Wy .Terr. This rifle will come with a factory letter stating it was shipped to J.P. Lower Denver ,Colo. April 29,1876 .45 cal. 28″ Barrel, double set triggers , serial #156983 . All three serial numbers match on the receiver tang , bottom barrel flat and on the fore stock (6983) . The bore is shiny with very good rifling. The rifle eventually found it’s way to the Freund brothers in Wyoming for either repairs or one of their many modifications. This is a true western Buffalo Rifle , a very hard item to acquire these days. In really nice condition!
