War of 1812 – Brown Bess

“American Captured”

Sold

This Bess has a really wonderful frontier look.  It’s been shortened to carbine size with the barrel being reduced from 39″ to 27 1/2″.  The right butt stockl still has it’s original storekeepers stamp. While the Tower lock retains a sharp Broad Arrow and functions as it should.  The conversion to the percussion system appears to be American along with a rear sight cut into the barrel breech and tang. The left buttstock has the initals of a former owner cut into it. A british soldier would never have done any of these things as the musket belonged to the King and not to soldier.  The most attractive part of the musket to me is the crude frontier stock repairs. These are done using hand made nails. A very appealing piece!
