Rare and desirable documented early pre.1799 Mld. 1795 U.S Springfield Type 1 musket from author George D. Moller’s personal collection . It’s the exact musket pictured on page 35 in his definitive book “American Military Shoulder Arms ” Vol. II. This musket is a excellent reconversion using the proper parts. It has the correct Type 1 features for the 1795-1798 period which include no date on the butt plate and lack of barrel proofs. Also the lock exhibits the proper Type 1 Springfield in a vertical curve behind the hammer and at the center of the lock is the shielded Eagle looking to it’s right (faint) above a faint script US . The ramrod is a correct replacement. GDM (George D. Moller) collection initials are marked at the toe of the stock. This rare example of the pre 1799 Springfield Model 1795 flintlock musket is the first U.S government manufactured primary issue shoulder arm, and is the missing piece to many a otherwise complete U.S martial collection. Moller’s ” American Military Shoulder Arms Vol. 1 & 2 ” have been the go to books for collectors since they first arrived 25 + years ago. The musket will come with the bayonet and sling as that’s the way George apparantly displayed the musket . It’s pictured on page 35 with the sling. Exceedingly Rare!
